Mumbai, 9 February 2026: The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2026 paid a vibrant tribute to Mumbai’s cultural heartbeat with a special screening of Jhankaar Beats followed by an engaging panel discussion at Cama Hall on Friday, 6 February. The event drew cinephiles, music lovers, and festival regulars who came together to revisit the cult classic and reflect on the city that inspired it.
The afternoon began with a screening of Jhankaar Beats, followed by a special panel titled “Celebrating Mumbai with Jhankaar Beats”, featuring Director Sujoy Ghosh and actors, Sanjay Suri and Shayan Munshi, in conversation with Rangita Pritish Nandy, President and Creative Director, Pritish Nandy Communications, who moderated the session. The panel explored how Mumbai’s energy, contradictions, and creative chaos shaped the film and how the city’s art, culture, and entertainment landscape has evolved since its release.
The speakers reflected on making the film at a time when urban, music-driven stories were still finding their place, and how Jhankaar Beats connected with a generation that saw its dreams and anxieties mirrored on screen. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where audiences shared their memories of the film and asked about its iconic music, character journeys, and behind-the-scenes moments.
The event demonstrated Kala Ghoda Arts Festival’s commitment to celebrating cinema that captures the spirit of Mumbai while creating space for reflection on how the city continues to influence contemporary art and entertainment.
